ACWF Leaders Visit CWU Teachers

On the eve of Teachers’ Day, Song Xiuyan, vice-president and first member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women’s Federation (ACWF), and Meng Xiaosi, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, visited teachers at China Women’s University (CWU), and presented regards.

Song visited the class of Broadcast & Hosting program, where she watched the live show presented by students from the Broadcasting and Hosting major in the university. She listened to the teacher’s report, inquired about the conditions of enrollment, cultivation, and employment, and praised those students’ participating in public service activities, and their outstanding performances in broadcasting chaired competitions in China.

Song said, “the camera lens has a focusing effect. Issues are more likely to be prominent in front of the camera. As a result, teachers should pay more attention to details in their teaching and practical training. Communication skills are of great importance in today’s open society. Students should strive to improve their professional skills, accumulate knowledge, and improve their communication.” She added that she hoped all the students could grow into elite professionals who could easily adapt to the industry demands and market changes.

Song inquired about the postgraduate education in CWU's Graduate Affairs Division. She was happy to learn that a total of 84 graduate students are majored in women’s empowerment, child protection, and family education courses, and the employment rate was 100 percent among the first batch of graduates. She said, “CWU should pay continuous attention to the cultivation of students' comprehensive quality and professional service abilities. Touching on specialized establishments, CWU should adjust itself to social needs and the China Public Institution reform, as well as enlarge the scope of employment. Students should make great effort to help women throughout all levels in China.”

Song affirmed the measures to integrate psychology-related courses into social work so as to solve graduate students’ practical psychological problems. She pointed out that people are burdened with more pressure in today’s society, and more and more people experience depression. The social work degree should highlight its teaching characteristics, bring law, psychology, behavior correction and other knowledge into the whole knowledge system. Students should spare no efforts to help more people with their professional skills, she said.

Song expressed her greetings to teachers in the Gender and Social Development School of CWU. She discussed with teachers and students, and listened carefully to the outstanding teachers' and students’ reports. She appreciated their management ideas in which teaching, scientific research, and social services are closely connected. She also praised students’ contribution in emergencies. She said, “students should pay attention to social practices, identify problems, take the problems into practice, learn from experience, and sum up the law. ACWF will provide the platform for students' social practices, strengthen our ties to grassroots women's federations, and finally form a working mechanism for students’ social practices.”

Song examined the second calligraphy exhibition students organized to celebrate Teachers’ Day. She asked students about their achievements in learning calligraphy.  She said that the calligraphy course is fully staffed. Students can cultivate their mind by practicing calligraphy. It may also help to improve the quality of learning, she said.

Xu Lihua, Director of ACWF’s Organization Department, and Li Ying, deputy director of ACWF General Office also attended the visit. Chairperson of the CWU Council Li Mingshun; CWU president and deputy secretary of the CWU Council, Liu Liqun; as well as vice-presidents Song Shengju, Liu Meng, and Wang Jingxia also all took part in the activity.
