CWU Delegates Attend 7th PPRD Women’s Forum

On November 25, the Pan Pearl River Delta (PPRD) Association for Women’s Development and Cooperation held its seventh meeting in Haikou, capital of south China’s Hainan Province. Five delegates from China Women’s University (CWU) participated in the event, including president Liu Liqun, vice-president Song Shengju, and three staff from CWU.

Based on their rich experiences of women’s higher education and researches into women’s issues, some 200 female delegates, women entrepreneurs, experts and scholars from the All-China Women’s Federation, women’s federations in PPRD region, and women’s organizations from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan gathered to discuss the latest developments among women from all walks of life in the region and draw up an inspiring blueprint for their growth.

At the symposium themed on “Women’s Opportunities and Challenges: the Internet Age”, Liu delivered a speech on “Transformation and Breakthrough: Internet Age”. She pointed out that women’s development is undergoing three big changes in the internet age. Firstly, changes in the traditional modes of thinking, social rules and industrial relationships require women to re-construct their issues logically. Secondly, in the era of “She Time” and “She Economy”, the society should re-value women’s issues, and pay more attention to women’s creative value rather than consumption value. Thirdly, society should rebuild women’s working efficiency on several levels, including breaking through the traditional gender frame and increasing the fairness of women’s development; breaking through the traditional gender order and enhancing women’s competitiveness; and, breaking through the traditional gender roles and improving women’s self-confidence.

After the symposium, concentrating on the impacts of big data on the female talents cultivation pattern, Song introduced the development of the CWU Computer Science Department, and the university’s information construction for education. Her speech raised many of the participants’ concerns.

CWU leaders and directors from the Graduate Office and the Administration Office met the leaders of Hainan Women’s Federation (HWF) before the meeting. HWF president Liu Jin, vice-president Wu Jianping, and directors from related departments attended the seminar. The two sides exchanged in-depth views on further implementing the agreement on jointly running the postgraduate training and comprehensive strategic cooperation.

The two sides reached broad consensus on female talents cultivation, women’s studies, and developing strategic cooperative partnerships. The seminar also opened up a new path for the university’s ongoing graduate education, and laid some solid foundations for the innovation of the joint education model, as well as the development of students’ ability in serving regional women.
