Kim Jong-un said he was open to a third summit with President Trump. However, North Korea’s leader said that America must change a mindset of “unilaterally pushing its demands”. The previous meeting between the pair failed after North Korea demanded that all sanctions against it be lifted. Mr Trump tweeted that a third summit would be “good”.
金正恩表示对第三次朝美首脑会晤持开放态度，但也强调美国必须改变“单方面把自己要求强加于人”的对话方式。上一次双方会晤中，朝鲜要求美国全面解除制裁后，谈判破裂。特朗普发推称，如果能有第三次会晤，那将“很好”。

Venezuela’s president, Nicolás Maduro, wants to recruit 1m more people to his civilian militia. He also called on the militia’s existing 2m members to be prepared to take up arms to protect the fatherland, and to work the fields for the country’s impoverished people. (Economist Espresso)

4. Amazon giving up on Chinese domestic shopping business

Amazon said it was closing its domestic e-commerce business in China. The company had long struggled to gain traction in China despite operating there for more than a decade. Instead of buying products sold locally by Amazon and its marketplace of Chinese suppliers, shoppers at Amazon.cn will be able to buy only some products imported by Amazon’s sites in the US, Britain, Germany or Japan.
亚马逊表示将关闭中国电商业务。该公司打入中国市场已十余年，但始终表现不佳。亚马逊中国将不再销售本土商品，也不再为其中国供应商提供平台服务，购物者将只能通过亚马逊在美国、英国、德国或日本的网站购买部分进口商品。
5. US Homeland Security Secretary resigning

US President Trump announced last Sunday Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen would be leaving her position and the current Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Kevin McAleenan would become acting secretary. Nielsen was responsible for the proposed border wall with Mexico and the separation of migrant families. Her resignation came after the president indicated he wanted to follow a “tougher” immigration policy. He has often accused Nielsen of not being tough enough.

6. US and Iran labelling each other as terrorist

The US designated Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps a Foreign Terrorist Organisation. America has previously blacklisted entities and people affiliated with the IRGC, but it is the first time it has officially labelled another country’s military as terrorists. The move is aimed at limiting the group’s finances and presence in the region. Iran responded by designating the US Central Command and all its forces as terrorist, and labelling the US a “supporter of terrorism.”

7. New Zealand firearm buyback cost ballooning to $300m

The New Zealand government’s planned buyback of semi-automatic firearms in the wake of the Christchurch shooting could cost as much as $300m (£155m), deputy prime minister Winston Peters has said. The government is due to introduce legislation banning most semi-automatic rifles by the end of next week, four weeks to the day since a gunman opened fire in two mosques in Christchurch, killing 50 people.

The US published a list of EU products to impose tariffs on. The move is in retaliation for European subsidies to Airbus, which the WTO says were illegal. The two sides have been fighting about aircraft subsidies for over a decade. The EU is reportedly preparing tariffs over American subsidies to Boeing.

9. black hole picture captured for first time

Astronomers released the first-ever image of a black hole. It lies at the heart of M87, a galaxy some 55m light years distant, and is larger than our solar system. Black holes are so dense that light cannot escape, confounding previous attempts to document them. This one was captured by a network of eight radio telescopes across the globe.

Chinese President Xi Jinping sent congratulations Friday to Kim Jong Un on his re-election as chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the DPRK. In his message, Xi said Kim’s re-election at the First Session of the 14th Supreme People’s Assembly demonstrated the trust in and support for Kim from the Party and people of the DPRK. Xi said he is “willing to work together with the chairman, taking the opportunity of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, to further push forward the development of China-DPRK relations so as to bring more benefits to the two countries and peoples.”

The exhibition, titled "The Journey Back Home" showcases more than 700 pieces of returned Chinese artifacts, including a painted pottery pot from the Western Han Dynasty (202 BC - 8 AD), a colored camel pottery figurine from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) and a white-glazed bowl from the Song Dynasty (960-1279).

【单词讲解】
Artifact，在英式英语中写作artefact，一般指“手工制品”，在考古领域则多指挖掘出来的“（工具、武器、饰品等具有考古或历史价值的）文物”。而我们常见的cultural relics里面的relic则指“遗迹、遗留物、遗址”等。我们可以说，在表示“历史遗迹”的时候，relic涵盖的范围要比artifact要广一些，而且这两个词一般都用复数形式。
“追索流散文物”可以用retrieve lost cultural relics/historical artifacts表示。Retrieve 表示“找回，重新获得”，比如追讨官员赃款（retrieve officials' illegal gains），找到遗体（retrieve bodies）等。

Blast和explosion均表示“爆炸”，可以替换使用，不过blast除了表示“爆炸”以外，还可以表示“（爆炸产生的）冲击波；强劲的气流；一阵...”等，比如：a blast of freezing rain（一阵冷冷的冰雨），a blast of anger（一股怒气），feel the blast from several miles away（感受到了几英里之外的冲击波）。

Revoke，读作[rɪˈvəʊk]，表示“撤销、取消、废除”等意思，比如： revoke a student's undergraduate bachelor's degree（取消某人的学士学位）、revoke one's driver's license（撤销某人的驾照）等。由此衍生的两个形容词revocable和irrevocable则分别表示“可撤销的”和“不可撤销的”。
这里的sexual assault allegations可以理解为有女性指控阿桑奇对其有侵犯行为，但是否有证据支持，无法确定。如果已经有足够的证据支持，正式提起诉讼的话，我们就要用a charge of sexual assault against Assange。

According to ticketing platform Maoyan, “Avengers: Endgame” has seized the crown for the highest-ever midnight premiere box office earnings in China, raking in 80 million yuan with over a week left to go. The previous record, set by 2017’s “The Fate of the Furious,” was 62.7 million yuan.
