Recently, the “28th Han Suyin Youth Award Translation Contest”, which was jointly held by the Chinese Translators Journal’s editorial office of Translators Association of China and the School of Foreign Languages of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, has come to a successful conclusion. Having gone through approximately six months of strict examinations and evaluations by experts and judges, the《谈易怒》translated by Miss Ha Wenting, a Grade-2012 student of Human Resource Department of China Women’s University (CWU) has stood out to win the third prize of the English-Chinese translating arena of this event. This is so far the best result that CWU’s students have achieved in this contest. Prior to this, two contestants from the Department of Foreign Languages had won Excellent Prize in 2013 and 2014 respectively.
 

     Ha Wenting, once an assistant for RCTS, majored in Human Resource Management and minored in English at CWU, and graduated with dual degrees upon completion of both of these degree programs. The source text of this English-Chinese translation is titled “On Irritability”. Mr. Ding Zhangang, Associate Professor of the Department of Foreign Languages, acted as Ha’s adviser for the contest.
     Due to its high prestige, the “Han Suyin Award for Young Translators” is regarded as the "Oscar” in Chinese translation circles, the top award conferred on the best contestants. The Contest, having been sponsored by Han Suyin (Elisabeth Comber, 1917-2012), the famous Chinese British writer and social activist since 1989, has been held annually for 28 consecutive years. It presents itself in two arenas: English-Chinese translation and Chinese-English translation, and grants First, Second, Third and Excellent prizes. As the most time-honored, largest in scale and most influential national translation event over the past 30 years, the Contest has not only inspired young people to learn foreign languages, and promoted foreign language teaching, but also helped to improve the overall quality of China’s translators.
