CWU Undergraduate Won Third Prize in 7th BLCU International Translation and Interpreting Competition

Recently, Miss Chen Siying (陈思颖), an undergraduate of the Department of Foreign Languages of China Women’s University, won Third Prize of Non-literary English-Chinese Translation in the 7th BLCU International Translation and Interpreting Competition. On Mar. 30, Miss Chen received her award at the ceremony held at Beijing Language and Culture University, the sponsor of this contest. This is the first time that a CWU candidate won a prize from such an international event.

As one of the most influential translation and interpreting contests originated in China, BLCU International Translation and Interpreting Competition made its debut in 2011. This year’s event was supervised by the Conférence Internationale Permanente d’Instituts Universitaires de Traducteurs et Interprètes (CIUTI), and got support from a number of prestigious translation and interpreting training institutes both at home and abroad, such as Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey (MIIS), Intercultural School Talents pour le Monde (ISIT), Centre for Translation Studies of the University of Leeds (CTS), Department of Linguistics and Translation of the City University of Hong Kong (LT), Centre for Studies of Translation, Interpreting and Cognition of the University of Macau (CSTIC), and Institute for Bilingual Research on Chinese Classics, etc. Among others, the candidates are mostly undergraduates and postgraduates of 525 universities from 12 countries and regions, including the UK, the US, Australia, France, Germany, Canada, Belgium, Spain, and Tunis. The registered candidates add up to 12207, with 9999 for Translation, and 2208 interpreting. The theme of this year’s event is “Belt and Road: Change through Dialogue”.

Miss Chen is presently an English major of Grade 2015 and assistant of the Research Center for Translation Studies of China women’s University (RCTS). The source text of her group of Non-literary English-Chinese Translation, titled “Richard Plantagenet”, recounts a critical time in English history. In her translation, Chen got guidance from her adviser Mr. Ding Zhangang and other teachers.

    Congratulations to Miss Chen Siying!
